EXTRA INCOME ALONGSIDE A JOB
Building something alongside a full working week is mostly a planning problem. The question is not how much you could do on a good day, but what you can sustain in an average week.
WHAT TO CHECK
- Your employment contract: does it say anything about outside work or competition.
- Your genuinely available hours, including commuting, caring duties and recovery.
- Tax: extra income must be declared, even when it is small.
- Possible effects on allowances, since higher income can reduce them.
- Fixed blocks in your week work better than working whenever it suits.
- A clear stopping point, so earning extra does not cost you your recovery or health.
STEPS
- 01Set your hoursChoose two fixed moments per week and put them in your calendar.
- 02Check your contractKnow in advance whether you need your employer's permission.
- 03Reserve taxPut a fixed percentage of every payment aside straight away.
Rules around side earnings, allowances and benefits change. Always check with the Belastingdienst, UWV or your municipality for your situation.
