SAVING TIPS: LOWER YOUR FIXED COSTS
Saving usually fails because of the wrong order, not a lack of willpower. Start with the largest recurring costs and keep it simple enough to sustain.
THE ORDER
- Start with an overview of everything leaving your account automatically.
- Tackle the three largest items first, that is where the room is.
- Then deal with duplicate and unused services.
- Check whether you are missing allowances or schemes you are entitled to.
- Move what you free up somewhere else immediately, or it disappears unnoticed.
- Repeat this once or twice a year instead of constantly.
STEPS
- 01One hour of overviewWrite down every fixed cost with its amount and renewal date.
- 02Three actionsPick a maximum of three things to sort out this week. No more.
- 03Lock it inAutomate whatever you free up towards a buffer or repayment.
What saving delivers differs per household. We deliberately avoid quoting average amounts, because they say nothing about your situation.
